bvi travel trips

TravelerTachyon Yachting Charters is a US based company, and we can pick up guests either in the USVI or the BVI. There are two main options on where to fly into, and whichever option you choose, we'll pick you up at the airport.

Several of the major airlines fly into the St Thomas Airport (code: STT), and if you choose to fly into St Thomas, one of your crew will meet you at the airport to help you with your luggage, reserve a cab, and take you to the American Yacht Harbor where your yacht will be fully fueled, provisioned and ready for you to board and begin your vacation. We will take you to Yost Van Dyke, Tortola, or Virgin Gorda first in order to clear customs. The American Yacht Harbor is in Redhook, St Thomas which is at the eastern most tip of St Thomas, and only about an hour or so sail to Jost Van Dyke (not a bad first sail and stopping point!) There are a few shops and a very nice grocery store and pharmacy for you to pick up anything you may have forgotten before you step onboard.

The other major pick up spot is from Beef Island in the BVI. Beef Island is connected to Tortola on the north side via a little bridge, and only small airplanes fly into this airport. You will clear customs at the airport after landing and again, one of your crew will meet you at the airport to help you with your luggage and lead you to your yacht. No need for a cab ride from this airport because it’s right next to Trellis Bay where your yacht will be anchored and waiting for you.

What to Bring:
The majority of guests bring way too much luggage for a vacation to the Virgin Islands, so we’ve come up with a list of suggestions, all of which should be able to fit in a small duffel or carry-on bag.

  • Any medications you take or may need to take (don’t forget eardrops if you’re prone to ear infections)
  • Travel size toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, etc)
  • Cotton tank tops, or lightweight short sleeved shirts
  • Comfortable shorts, skirts or very lightweight pants
  • Bathing suits, swim trunks
  • Shirts and shorts to put on over your bathing suit that you don’t mind getting a bit wet
  • A long-sleeved shirt and a pair of pants for the potentially cooler breezy evening
  • A “casual nice” outfit if you want to go to one of the few fancy restaurants (no coats, ties, or fancy dresses required) flip flops, crocks (or other water type shoes) for onshore excursions. No need for shoes onboard you yacht, and remember that most bars/restaurants you’ll walk to via the beach.
  • Sunglasses!
  • Sunblock (we will have some onboard as well)
  • A hat (the wide brim types are great, but remember the famous trade winds and make sure the hat has a chin strap or is tight on your head)
  • Your cell phone will work on US service in some spots (depending in what service you have-cingular is the best) and newer phones will automatically transfer to an international service everywhere else in the BVI, so you can use it, it’ll just cost you.
  • Your iPod (we have a portable speaker dock for any size iPod)
  • Your laptop computer, if you want to get online (if it’s got internal wireless capability, it should be able to get online in certain harbor “hotspots”)
  • SCUBA gear if you’ve got it—wetsuit, BCD, Regulator (we’ve got tanks and weights)
